Water Trail News
Interpretation on the Susquehanna
David Buck, EMHR Greenway Coordinator and owner of Endless Mountain Outfitters guides many paddle trips on the Susquehanna River North Branch incorporating opportunities for historical and cultural education. In 2011, David conducted a paddle for staff, board and members of the North Branch Land Trust (NBLT). This annual paddle attracts river enthusiasts as well as land conservation folks and is considered a real highlight of the summer for those involved. Pictured above is Dr. Katherine Faull, professor of German at Bucknell University. Dr. Faull is a renowned expert on German languages and the history of the Moravian missionary settlements and Native American villages in Pennsylvania. Here Dr. Faull discusses the course of development of Native American peoples along the Susquehanna River.
Water Trail Development Project
Endless Mountains Heritage Region is implementing a grant through the Chesapeake Bay Gateways & Water Trails Network of the National Park Service for Phase II of the North Branch River Water Trail. We are completing river access areas development and enhancements, installing river mile and wayfinding signage and designing and installing river town community orientation signage. The project fulfills critical development needs to enhance the usability and visitor experience along the Susquehanna River Water Trail - a designated national recreation trail. While we have accomplished a major portion of the scheduled work and outcomes, we still have some unmet needs through this summer and could always use the help of volunteers. If you have an interest in helping with the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail, please feel free to contact Phil Swank at (570) 265-1528 or David Buck at (570) 746-3272.

Susquehanna River North Branch - National Recreation Trail
The North Branch of the Susquehanna River is a designated National Recreation Trail, with Endless Mountains Heritage Region and Pennsylvania Environmental Council, serving as partners in management of this trail.
The trail has been accepted into the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network and is a Recommended Water Trail of the American Canoe Association. This designation of the North Branch provides the key link for enabling the entire length of the main branch of the river in Pennsylvania to be National Recreation Trail. The recognition adds to water trail initiatives conducted by the Endless Mountains Heritage Region, including a comprehensive trail map and guide and orientation and safety signage at public access points along the river.
